Two suicide bombers detonated bombs at the
busy Kano textile Kwarii Market located at city
centre, killing six.
The female suicide bombers disguised as
customers while the marketers became
suspicious with their attire and raised alarm
after they requested for water to ease
themselves.
An eyewitness told reporters under anonymity
that "the marketers denied them which caused
a shouting match between the marketers and
the two female bombers".
He said one of the female suicide bombers
detonated her bomb during the ensuing
confusion to avoid been arrested.
Confirming the explosion, the state Police
commissioner, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, told
reporters on Wednesday that the casualty
figure of six persons including the suicide
bombers.
Shinaba stated that seven people sustained
various degrees of injuries and were taken to
hospital for treatment.
He explained that the incident happened
around 2.45pm when the two female
bombers in Hijab detnated the bombs.
‘’We have also taken the dead ones including
the two suicide bombers to the morgue and the
area has been cordoned off in order to prevent
hoodlums from using the opportunity to loot
property at the market".
Shinaba said the security agencies were
working in conjunction with the officials of the
market traders so that nobody will come under
the pretext of sympathising with people to loot
in the market.
The police commissioner added: ‘’The police
ordinance unit are already working to ensure
that there are no explosives hidden somewhere
in the market’’.
